BE IT RESOLVED, that Agreement PR00005297 with The Network for Better Futures (dba Better Futures Minnesota) to provide partial deconstruction services for the Aqua City Motel Demolition project (1008593), during the period May 16, 2023 through May 15, 2024, in the amount of $16,970.00 be approved; that the Chair of the Board be authorized to sign the agreement on behalf of the county; and that the Controller be authorized to disburse funds as directed.

Background:
The Aqua City Motel, located at 5739 Lyndale Ave S, Minneapolis, MN, was acquired by Hennepin County in 2022 for conversion into permanent affordable housing.
Upon review it was determined that the best use of the site is to demolish the building to allow for a new permanent affordable housing construction project.
As part of the Hennepin County's Construction and Demolition Reuse and Recycling Policy, the county will utilize deconstruction services used to dismantle and salvage existing building components. The Network for Better Futures, a 501c3 Non-Profit Social Enterprise, has successfully deconstructed other county projects while training participants for a career in deconstruction or construction.
Over the last year, the county has executed contracts in excess of $100,000 with The Network for Better Futures which necessitates this board action request.
Current Request: This request seeks approval of the agreement with The Network for Better Futures to provide partial deconstruction services for the Aqua City Motel Demolition project (1008593), in the amount of $16,970.
Impact/Outcomes: This action supports Hennepin County's disparity reduction efforts by directly supporting employment opportunities within the agreement with The Network for Better Futures.
