WHEREAS:

WHEREAS, Special Olympics Minnesota wishes to use the Hennepin County Government Center North Plaza for the final leg of the Torch Run on Friday, June 23, 2023, from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m.; and
WHEREAS, Special Olympics Minnesota offers children and adults with intellectual disabilities year-round sports training and competition; and
WHEREAS, Every year, law enforcement agencies carry the Flame of Hope a combined 925 miles through communities across Minnesota, culminating at the Special Olympics Minnesota Summer Games; and
WHEREAS, the Hennepin County Government Center North Plaza will serve as the location for a brief photo op and the passing of the ceremonial torch to Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office and City of Minneapolis law enforcement; and
WHEREAS, Special Olympics Minnesota will sign a Hennepin County Use Agreement and provide necessary insurance;
Resolution:
BE IT RESOLVED, that the Hennepin County Board of Commissioners authorizes Special Olympics Minnesota to use the Hennepin County Government Center North Plaza for the Torch Run on Friday, June 23, 2023, and directs the Communication and Engagement Services and Facility Services departments to make the necessary arrangements.
