Declaring February 2026 as Shop Local month in Hennepin County - offered by Commissioner Conley

WHEREAS, Hennepin County celebrates all our local businesses and recognizes the vital role that local small businesses play as job creators, innovators, and as a reflection of what makes our communities unique; and
WHEREAS, the federal immigration enforcement surge is causing tremendous suffering, disruption and fear across the county, including in our small business community; and
WHEREAS, the county stands with our small and local businesses that anchor main streets, strengthen our economy, and enhance our cultural life across the county, including many that are owned by, employ, or serve members of immigrant communities; and
WHEREAS, choosing where to shop, eat, and spend time is one of the most immediate and powerful ways individuals can support their neighbors, help keep local businesses open and thriving, and invest in the vitality of our communities; and
WHEREAS, the county promotes shopping at local small businesses through the multijurisdictional Love Local campaign, encouraging residents to support independently owned businesses that make our communities vibrant and livable.
Resolution:
BE IT RESOLVED, that the Hennepin County Board of Commissioners recognizes the hard work and ingenuity of entrepreneurs who start and grow businesses in our community, for the community, and we thank them for everything they do to keep our communities strong in face of this crisis, and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that we do hereby proclaim February 2026 as Shop Local Month in Hennepin County, and we encourage all residents to celebrate and support our local small businesses -not only during this month, but throughout the year.
