WHEREAS, teen dating violence is a serious public health and safety concern that affects young people across communities, cultures, and backgrounds; and
WHEREAS, many adolescents experience emotional, physical, sexual, or digital abuse within dating relationships, and some youth are at increased risk of exploitation, often without recognizing the behavior as harmful or knowing where to seek help; and
WHEREAS, the impacts of teen dating violence can include trauma, mental health challenges, academic disruption, and increased vulnerability to exploitation and future violence; and
WHEREAS, prevention and early intervention through education, awareness, and supportive services are critical to promoting healthy relationships and preventing violence and exploitation before harm escalates; and
WHEREAS, community-led, trauma-informed, and survivor-centered approaches are essential to supporting youth and fostering safety, dignity, and healing.
Resolution:
BE IT RESOLVED, that the Hennepin County Board of Commissioners hereby proclaims February as Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month in Hennepin County; and encourages residents, schools, families, and community partners to:
• promote healthy relationships
• prevent dating violence and exploitation; and
• support youth impacted by harm.
