BE IT RESOLVED, that the County Administrator be authorized to negotiate Agreement PW 53-84-26 with Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway for construction and maintenance of a new concrete railroad crossing surface on County State Aid Highway (CSAH) 90 between Trunk Highway (TH) 12 and Hillstrom Road in the city of Independence (Capital Project 2220906, a subproject of Capital Project 2220900), at an estimated county cost of $75,000; that following review and approval by the County Attorney’s Office, the Chair of the Board be authorized to sign the agreement on behalf of the county; and that the Controller be authorized to disburse the funds as directed.

Background:
Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway (BNSF) will install a new concrete crossing surface on CSAH 90 during the 2027 construction season. The new concrete crossing surface will cover all vehicle driving lanes and will be extended by eight feet to provide wider shoulders at the crossing. New asphalt shoulders will also be extended to the north of the crossing to provide a more consistent design with the roadway to the south of the crossing.
Funding for the project is available in Capital Project 2220900: Pavement Rehabilitation Program, with expenses tracked in subproject 2220906.
